I want to help bright and creative people. People whose wings have been clipped inadevertently by people who meant well but didn't know better. They are wounded but still have a glimmer of hope that their dreams may come true. That they'll finally be able to be who they truly are & shed those expectations they've been living with all those years.

I want them to understand that who they are is important. That their hopes and dreams are not stupid, not impractical, and definitely not impossible. I want to explain that who they are is enough. That those expectations they were slapped with at an early age aren't what they need to follow. And to gain trust in themselves - their ideas - their thoughts and be truly who they are instead of what someone esle wants them to be.

You know, you're not wrong in thinking you don't need to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life.

It's OK. And you know what? Those adults are definitley not happy and aren't really doing anything good for themselves by staying there.

You're special in that you know life is full of things that are interesting, fun and that life doesn't ahve to be boring or a pain.

So keep what you know is good - keep the enthusiasm, keep the curiosity, keep the creativity and be who you are.

They are stifling you. You need to express the fullness of who you are no matter what they say.

Those other adults are just going through the motions, day after day. They have dreams - or have at one point - but they've sacrificed them at the altar of "security" which isn't really very secure anyway.

The only secure thing is you and who you are. If you stick to that, you'll be fine. It'll be hard, but it will be way more fun than what you see those other adults dealing with.

leave the stress behind. don't bother living up to others expectations because they don't realize how wonderful you really are.

And when people tell you to stop, try to clip your wings, or poke holes in your beautiful dreams, ignore them. move on and know that what you're doing may be uncomfortable to them, but it's what you need to do for yourself and for the world.

Do NOT try to live up to anyone else's expectations.

orphan

I'm 12 years old and have been an orphan for a while now. Everyone keeps asking me what I want to be when I grow up. They all give knowing looks to each other and me, expecting me to say something like "doctor' or "dentist" because that's all they know. Me? I have no idea. I'm only 10! besides, there's so much out there that's exciting and interesting why do I have to choose now?

I could be a writer. Or an opthamologist. But really, what does that take? I heard something about having to go to school 'till I'm 25 or somehting. That's a LONG time. Why do they have to keep asking me? Why do they need an answer?

So I tell them. I'm going to be dentist. Or an ophtamologist. Cuz that's what the tests all say. But they say I could be a teacher, too. So why do things have to be so confusing?

I love all my classes. I read everything I get my hands on. but no one seems to think that it's OK for me to just be me.

So many expectations. So much pressure. I can't stand it.

I get books from other people about being a doctor in far away places. I love the pictures and places in the photographs, I wish i could visit.

But why do they keep asking me what I want to be when I grow up?

Are they happy? All I hear are them complaining about their jobs, how they don't know how they're going to pay the bills, how much things cost these days... If that's what being an adult is, I don't want to be one.

What will I be like in 15 years? 20 years? I don't know. I can't think past lunch today. And I get to cook!

Yesterday I read the "P" encyclopedia. Got halfway through and wondered what else there was in Peru that would be exciting to see... Llamas & people with red rosy cheeks... mountains.
